Why this launcher
Why Onyro? A controller-first Windows game launcher
The difference is the combination: one shelf for all your game launchers in one app, use your controller as a mouse on PC, an on-screen keyboard, and power so you can play PC games from the sofa. It is not the controller mouse on its own.
Who it is for
Someone who wants to play PC games like a console, with a controller. Games are already installed. They may come from more than one launcher. You sign in to Windows once. After that the controller is enough.
Who should use something else
- Almost everything you play is on Steam: Steam Big Picture.
- You want themes, metadata and add-ons: Playnite.
- You want the Game Pass catalogue on Windows 11: Xbox mode.
- You want emulation and retro collections: LaunchBox Big Box.
Steam Big Picture
Big Picture is the stronger shelf when the library is Steam. Onyro is a Steam Big Picture alternative for all your games, because it also reads what Xbox, Epic, GOG and the other supported launchers already installed. Steam Big Picture alternative
Playnite
Playnite is the library you configure. Onyro stays narrower on purpose: one shelf, controller navigation, a controller mouse, an on-screen keyboard, and power from the sofa. Onyro and Playnite
What it cannot do
- Windows security prompts (UAC) still need a physical mouse.
- No Game Pass catalogue. Installed games can still show up. The catalogue itself is not in Onyro.
- Onyro must be running for the controller mouse to work. It is not a separate driver.
It also cannot wake a PC that is off or asleep. Known limits
